In today’s world, sustainability is not just a buzzword; it’s a non-negotiable aspect of doing business. The eCommerce industry, notorious for producing significant waste and carbon emissions, is in the crosshairs of consumers demanding greener products and supply chains. And the brands they choose to purchase from are taking notice. Green fulfilment is crucial to a sustainable eCommerce offering.
At Autofulfil, we’re proud to announce that we’ve offset our carbon emissions for the second consecutive year. As the leading eCommerce fulfilment centre based in Ireland, we understand the critical need for sustainability and strive to set the green standard for our industry. Our partnership with Trees for the Future, and our extensive sustainability initiatives, underscore our commitment to fostering a healthier planet.
Committed to a Greener Future with Trees for the Future
Since 2022, Autofulfil has been partnered with Trees for the Future, a nonprofit that has planted over 250 million trees globally since 1989. Through this partnership, we’ve helped:
- Plant 13,760 trees, offsetting 1,100,770 lbs of CO2
- Produce 51,599 lbs of organic produce to feed families and generate financial security
- Restore 216,714 sq ft of land in Sub-Saharan Africa
Building a Comprehensive Sustainability Program
Our commitment to a greener future goes beyond carbon offsetting. Autofulfil has launched a series of green initiatives aimed at reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable business practices:
- Carbon-Neutral Fulfilment: We offset carbon emissions across our entire operation, from packaging production to shipping emissions, and even employees’ commute fuel usage.
- Sustainable Packaging: We use recyclable and biodegradable paper-based packaging supplied by VPK Group for shipping orders, including FSC certified boxes, paper tape, and paper void fill.
- Warehouse Energy & Carbon Reduction: Our Oranmore fulfilment centre reduces energy consumption through motion-sensing lights and is powered by 65.3% renewable energy.
- Waste Reduction & Recycling: We use only the minimum packaging necessary for safe shipping and recycle all paper and plastic waste generated from our facilities.
- Green Procurement Policy: Our procurement processes favour suppliers committed to sustainable and ethical practices.
- Sustainability & Circular Economy Committee: This committee promotes sustainable practices throughout all aspects of our operations.
- Environmental ISO Certification: We’re actively working towards ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
- Renewable Energy Planning Permissions: Our Fisherstown, Longford facility has planning permissions for future development of battery and solar farms to support renewable energy creation.
- Circular Economy Initiatives: We encourage our clients’ customers to return used products for responsible recycling or repurposing. We also partner with organisations to repurpose items that cannot be resold.
- UN Sustainable Development Goals Alignment: We aim to align our business practices with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to contribute to a healthier planet and fairer society.
